Council elections October 2020

I hope you and your family and friends are managing during this stressful and difficult time. Please reach out for help if you need any support; community kindness is getting us through this pandemic.

While local government elections are probably not a high priority for you right now, at this stage, Victorian councils will conduct postal elections in October. Moonee Valley will elect 3 councillors for the Myrnong Ward, in which you reside (Flemington, Ascot Vale, Travancore, Moonee Ponds, and a portion of Essendon).

I’m standing as an independent candidate for the election.

Who am I?

I’ve been engaged in local issues over the past two decades and am experienced in listening to and working with residents, organisations, businesses and Moonee Valley Council to improve decision-making for our community.

I live in Travancore with my family including our dog and his feline nemesis. I’m currently working as a teacher and researcher in education and am soon to submit a PhD thesis on multilingual learning. I’ve previously worked in law, politics, and journalism. We’ve been a Moonee Valley family for over 20 years. I run the Flemington Theatre Company, and the Moonee Valley Blog, keeping locals informed about issues. I also run—and, like others, am missing weekly Parkruns by the river.

What will I do for you?

Listening to community members, acting on your concerns, and supporting those in need, is my approach.

·   Acting on climate change—reducing community greenhouse emissions to meet international targets as a matter of urgency; protecting our environment including open space and waterways

·   Social justice—including disability rights and access, public health, affordable and public housing, Reconciliation, gender inclusivity, multicultural equality, aged care and early learning, and the arts

·   Restoring trust—including community focused planning, integrity and honesty in decision making.

My commitment to you is that, if elected, I will listen and act to represent you in decision-making at the local level.

I look forward to meeting you and I would be grateful for your support at the election.

Rose
